The Volvo Penta KAD300 is a high-performance marine diesel engine designed to deliver impressive acceleration, strong torque and dependable power for planing boats. Combining a compact 3.6-litre inline-six design with advanced turbocharging, compressor technology and Electronic Diesel Control, the KAD300 became one of Volvo Penta’s most successful performance diesel engines.
Producing 285 HP (210 kW) at the crankshaft and 272 HP (200 kW) at the propeller shaft, the KAD300 delivers its maximum rated power at 3,800 RPM. Its six-cylinder, 24-valve direct-injection design combines a mechanically driven compressor with a turbocharger and charge-air cooling to provide responsive power throughout the operating range.
At lower engine speeds and during acceleration, the compressor supplies additional air to help generate strong torque and quick response. As engine speed increases, the turbocharger provides the airflow required for high-RPM performance. Volvo Penta’s Electronic Diesel Control (EDC) manages the system to optimize engine operation and fuel delivery.
When paired with the Volvo Penta DP-G Duoprop sterndrive, twin counter-rotating stainless-steel propellers provide excellent grip in the water, responsive handling and efficient power transfer. The complete propulsion system was engineered for strong acceleration, reduced vibration and confident maneuverability.
